You are dumped in a world and left to do what you want.

The Xbox version of Morrowind had its problems with clunky loading screens and unintuitive interface but PC version was smooth and the range of gameplay was impressive. You can choose to specialise your weaponry, use magic, ranged or melee weapons and you can walk backwards and forwards through the world at will but ultimately, you won’t progress through the game without killing monsters.Īt the top end of the choice spectrum we have games like Far Cry, Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind and The Sims. At the bottom with the least choice, we have games like Dungeon Siege (walk down the valley, kill monsters, collect stuff) and Doom 3 (walk down the corridors, kill monsters, collect stuff). There are really only three levels of choice available in games at the moment. Okay, that’s not true at all, but even in the most progressive of RPGs you generally have one major plot arc that drives the game and forces you one way through the story. You’re shoehorned into fixed cinematic after fixed cinematic and the most complex option you have is which weapon you use to kill the next slathering blood-covered monster. Most games out there give you very little leeway to choose your path. You can make up for it by pumping up the adrenaline levels, but that’s a work-around, not a solution and it only appeals to a small demographic of the population. I've already done some typical troubleshooting (restart the game, etc), but I am going to do some more and see if I can find anything myself.Lack of choice is boring. My previous experience playing morrowind on this machine a few years ago did not have this issue, at the time I was playing with only MGSO. Some long grass mods (was such a pain to get working with Rebirth) IDK if this issue applies to other sounds yet, water is the only one I've noticed on my walk to Balmora. Running the game with all the mods checked or unchecked had no effect (unchecked isn't true vanilla, as some of my mods effect the game directly). The volume is almost completely unnafected by the volume slider, but minimim is a little bit quieter than maximum.Ĭhanging 3D audio to hardware or software ingame seemed to have no effect. If I take one step back the sound completely stops. Instead of the sound getting louder or quieter depending on distance, it always plays at practically-in-the-river volume. Anyway, I have an issue with my "flowing water" noises. I recently re-installed morrowind, and have spent the better part of today wrestling with mods (I never really did a lot of modding before, this is my first time using a fair few of them).
